DENTAL HYGIENE SERVICES: Plaque, a sticky film of bacteria, is
constantly forming on teeth. If not removed on a daily basis by thorough brushing
and flossing, plaque can cause gum disease as well as tooth decay.
Regular professional cleanings, by a dental hygienist or dentist, are
also important in maintaining the health of teeth and gums. The Dental
Hygiene Department of the University of Pittsburgh charges only a
small fee for cleanings. Medical Assistance is also accepted. Phone (412)
648-8411 for an appointment.
ORTHODONTIC COVERAGE
Your child may qualify for dental treatment coverage (including orthodontic treatment) if your family has Medical Assistance coverage. An orthodontist must examine your child and send the results of the orthodontic evaluation to Harrisburg for final determination of eligibility. Call 1-800-543-7633 for info.
